Exhibition : Éclats du rire !

Humour, ironie, fantaisie dans les collections des Frac

09 OCT 2026 › 10 JAN 2027

Le Tripostal, Lille
22, Avenue Willy Brandt

As part of its ongoing series inviting major public and private contemporary art collections, lille3000 brings together over 150 works from the 22 Fonds régionaux d’art contemporain (Frac) across the 5,000 m² of the Tripostal. This exhibition explores humor in all its diverse forms.

Often regarded as marginal or secondary in the contemporary art world, humor is, in fact, a powerful tool for critique and freedom used by many artists. Dark humor and existential irony will mingle with laughter and unease. By subverting the violence of our world, these works often take the form of a biting comedy that reveals the flaws in our systems.

At times, the exhibition follows poetic, absurd, or surrealist paths. Wordplay will challenge our visual, linguistic, and symbolic interpretations through incongruous associations designed to delight the visitor. The journey aims to provoke both laughter and thought, proving that contemporary creation can be demanding without ever being dull.

The exhibition is generous, inventive, and exhilarating, taking laughter seriously—but never too seriously.

Éclats du rire ! champions a freer, more accessible, and open approach. These works invite us to question art differently and offer a fresh perspective for an intergenerational audience.
