During the 2023 season, the Gare Saint Sauveur hosted an exhibition that delighted young and old alike. Range ta chambre ! was proposed by artist Jean-François Fourtou, a regular visitor to the major seasons of lille3000 (La maison tombée du ciel for Fantastic in 2012 and the world of Nanitos for Utopia in 2022).
In this exhibition, Jean-François Fourtou presented his first childhood bedroom, which he occupied until the age of 4, in the family flat in the heart of the old working-class district of Paris: Ménilmontant. The artist invited visitors to return to the magical world of childhood, to lose their adult bearings for a while in a monumental children’s bedroom, six times as large and untidy, emerging incongruously and spectacularly from the concrete skeleton of the Gare!
Like a tiny child or an animated toy, visitors could take shelter under the XXL school desk, wander through the labyrinthine passageways, or rest against a human-sized teddy bear. They let themselves be guided by the ropes of a giant carpet transformed into creepers filled with animals, which spread through the space like a thread, the thread of time, life and the imagination.
This fun and immersive exhibition was a real experience, a plunge into the world of childhood, imbued with nostalgia and tenderness. Time seemed to stand still in this exhibition that you could experience, touch and play with, in a whirlwind of emotions and joy.
